Carol Stangler

Environmental Artist
Environmental artist Carol Stangler first encountered bamboo in the late 1980s while gathering kudzu vines for her basketry art. She was impressed by bamboo's tall woody stems, and enchanted by its exotic, graceful character. After a decade of experimentation and building with bamboo, Stangler wrote The Craft and Art of Bamboo. Published in 200l, with beautiful photography, the book brings an accessible, contemporary approach to bamboo elements for Western homes and gardens.

Carol Stangler gives bamboo workshops throughout the country, She is an instructor in the Textile Department at Georgia State University's School of Art and Design, and an Artist-in-Residence with the Fulton County Arts Council's School Arts Program in Atlanta. Stangler's work also includes bamboo design and consultation. Recent clients include the Nashville Zoo in Nashville, Tennessee, the Shoji Whirlpool Retreat in Asheville, North Carolina, and the Zen Temple of New Orleans, Louisiana.
