Edith Kelman
Fiber & Light / Sculptural Installations / Art & Science Interactions
Kelman creates playful, architectonic fiber works that investigate the natural world. Her "Fiber & Light" Installations are inspired by personal observations and research into natural phenomena. In March 2001 and 2002, she visited Alaska with groups of scientists to view and study the Northern Lights, and to install her Aurora-inspired work at the Geophysical Institute. In 2003 she instigated art-science collaborations with Grady High School students to generate the dramatic light installation "Aurora Gradyalis;" and with Fernbank Science Center, to participate in NASA-TV/PBS "Live from the Aurora" Interactive Educational TV program, and to create the on-site sculptural experience, "Auroral Reflections."
