Gregor Turk
Sculptor, Environmental Artist
Gregor received his BA from Rhodes College and his MFA from Boston University, and served as a Peace Corp volunteer in West Africa. Gregor Turk's two and three-diminsional work primarily incorporates mapping imagery. For three three years, he focused on the 49th Parallel Project, producing a documentary video and a body of multi-media art work of his 1,270 mile journey by bike and foot along the U.S./Canadian border. "Utilizing a variety of media, I tend to focus on the fundamental qualities of mapping: the mysteriousness, inherent biases, cultural authoritativeness, and ability to simultaneously represent and distort reality. As mediator between individuals and their surroundings, the mapping process expounds various agendas which serve as artistic fodder."
Gregor’s work has been exhibited internationally and he has received several public art commissions, including a permanent installation in Gates E 33 - 36 in the International Concourse at Hartsfield International Airport, Atlanta , Ga. Gregor is a founding member of the Metropolitan Public Art Coalition (MPAC), teaches as an adjunct instructor at several local colleges and universities and conducts teaching residencies, workshops, and collaborations through arts organizations and institutions in Atlanta and throughout the state.
