 Kay Rosenblum
Actress, a.k.a. "Queen Emeralda"
Kay Rosenblum says of her work in the classroom, "If it's not fun it's not worth doing." Apply this philosophy to education, combine with acting, add Kay Rosenblum, and you've got the potential for students to learn under circumstances that are pleasurable and memorable.
Kay has worked with the Georgia Council for the Arts and Young Audiences as well as many other organizations. She draws upon experience gained as an Alliance Theatre Intern and her training in Discipline-Based Arts Education at the Southeast Center for the Arts in Chattanooga to illuminate curriculum studies in the classroom.
Come into a class where Kay is working and you may see the students pretending to be the sun, the moon and the stars, participating in a "live" broadcast from the Civil War, getting off the Mayflower, forming the first labor union, acting out animals and where they live, throwing tea into the Boston Harbor, traveling the Underground Railroad, or well, the list could be limitless! You will see Kay telling stories and you will see students up out of their seats planning and working cooperatively and excitedly together. You will see students who have been labeled "shy" surprise everyone with a splendid performance. Many performances stay in the classroom, but if a school is interested in a longer residency, performances could well turn into an asembly or PTA meeting highlight.
